ALERT -
THE LEGALITY OF ALL CUTLERY & POCKET KNIVES ARE NOW
BEING THREATENED
A ridiculous
50 year old switchblade law enacted because of
Hollywood gang film and news betrayals of switchblades
in the 1950s will be revised in less than 30 days.
If enacted, these new pocket knife revisions will make
almost all pocket knives illegal and will affect all US
knife & cutlery owners. NOTE - This
is not just a revision on switchblade law, even Boy Scout,
carpet/utility, Leatherman, and Swiss Army knives will
become illegal under the one-handed operation
regulations.
Basically the US
Customs office is the regulating power that oversees
knife and cutlery regulations. During the 1950s,
popularized gangland movies and newspapers
sensationalized switchblades as weapons of death that
roving gangs used to torment and kill their
victims. The
reality was that a very limited number of deaths ever occurred
on the "streets" due to switchblades.
The reaction though was to control and limit the sale of
switchblades in the US and ban all switchblade knife
imports. Over the years many knife owners have
realized that only expensive switchblades of the highest
quality were every really worth owning.
Today we have a
number of very high quality
switchblade knives available, however we also have new
innovations such as manual one-handed opening knives
featuring thumb studs, assisted, inertia, and other
knives featuring methods to reliably open and close a
knife with just one hand. Admittedly this is very
handy when one hand is busy holding a 50-75lb bail of
hay, aiding a critical emergency victim, or just day to
day chores that require use and operation of a knife in
one hand and use of the other hand. Today
one-handed knives have become so popular that Buck,
Leatherman, Swiss Army, and even some Boy Scout knives
feature one handed opening blades... all of which will
be illegal if the
US Customs changes are enacted. Yes even your
retracting utility knife you use in your garage (AKA a
carpet knife) will become illegal under these rules.
Additionally,
this ruling could destroy and bankrupt the already
weakened cutlery and knife manufacturers with stockpiles
of un-saleable inventory. Let's face it, the
economy has not been strong in any industry.
