Shaving & Bath -> Jemico Solingen -> Razor & Knife Stropes
Jemicon Solingen of Germany has produced the finest razor strops since the early 1900s.
Only sharpen a straight razor with a specially designed razor wet stone and razor strop, using anything else will damage the delicate edge and make the razor dangerous for use.
With use, the incredibly delicate edge on a razor becomes microscopically bent. Stropping the razor straightens and redefines the razor?s edge, avoiding drag while shaving. A straight razor should be stropped before each use and after honing. Some strops have linen or fabric backing that creates friction, warming the blade and making the metal malleable.
Most of our clients find that their straight razor requires honing about once a month. Honing re-sharpens the edge of the razor. A razor should be first stropped before honing to ensure that the blade is properly aligned. Straight razor hones are usually either a fine grade surgical Arkansas stone or hard black Arkansas stone.
