From Spyderco: New H-1 Steel is a precipitation-hardened alloy with .1 percent nitrogen that performs like carbon in the steel matrix, but will not react to chlorine, making rust. Holding an edge comparable to carbon-based steels, H-1 work-hardens at the cutting edges when processed and sharpened, raising Rc hardness and durability.
